Page names in Facebook

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get around the auto page naming system on facebook? Or, does anyone know how to get in touch with an actual facebook person about naming pages?

I am setting up a page for my scholarly journal - Genocide Studies and Prevention - but am unable to use the journal's full name. The auto page creator system will not allow us to have genocide in the page name. When you search FB there are many, many pages with genocide in their page name. How do you get around the auto page creator?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi Tamara,

I'm not familiar with an automatic name generator for Facebook Pages. When I visit the creation page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php) there's a free-form text field to put in the name of the page. Do you see something different?

Hi Ellie - thanks for your quick response ... I sent this to your email as well as I didn't know which you would see 1st ...

Using the page creation form(http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php) , when I put in Genocide Studies and Prevention(this is the name of the journal) as the page name, then complete the rest of the form and submit, I get an "error type" message saying that the name contains words that are not allowed by facebook. This doesn't seem to be true as there are many others that have genocide in their page name. There must be some way to get around this auto page creation/message. I have looked and looked but cannot find a "real" person to contact.

Any ideas?

You might need to contact Facebook about the issue. They've changed their rules over time, which may be why there are other pages that already exist that include "genocide" in the name.

Here's what I found in Facebook help:

The name I’d like to create a Page for is blocked. How can I create a Page for this artist, brand, or business?

Only the official representative may create a Page for an artist, brand, or business. If you are the authorized representative, you will need to contact us from an address associated with this artist. If you're not able to create your desired Page, please contact us through the form linked from the error message you see.

is there a "real contact"

I've tried that email contact form but no one replies. I've tried this several times over the last month and a half. Do you know of a "real person" to talk to at FB?

Unfortunately I don't know of a better way to reach them

Unfortunately we've pretty much reached my limit here. I'd suggest keep trying to get in touch with them, and keep trying to go ahead and create the page. Facebook frequently changes their rules and processes, so it might just suddenly work one day!

What is the difference bewtween a FB group and a FB page?

I'm still searching for a way to name our page with the journal's full name - Genocide Studies and Prevention. In my search I ran accross the group application. Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm new to FB - what is the difference between a group and a page? For some reason the group option lets me name it with the full name. Is there a problem with our scholarly journal having a group rather than a page to communicate with subscribers and potential subscribers?

But you can still create a group if you like.
