The website for my retail store currently runs on Joomla with the VirtueMart plugin. It was somewhat simple to set up, just be sure to read about security, how to make it search engine friendly and how to customize the website. Overall, I'm moderately satisfied with the solution. I've seen easier to use CMS systems - all of which have been custom designed.

You can use a CMS (content management system) like joomla or wordpress  that facilitates the administration and promotion of the website. There's a lot of modules and plugins that you can use to make your life (or your marketing campaing) easier... VitueMart for Joomla is an example....

There are a variety of CMS solutions out there such as Joomla, Wordpress, Drupal.  I would experiment with each one.  If your not sure which technology to use, lynda.com has some excellent training videos that teach you how to use many many different programs including the three mentioned above, and you can pay on a month by month basis to get as much training time as you need.

Some other great finance / business books I would highly recommend reading just to get a good sense of how to build a business include

1.  No More Mondays by Dan Miller

2.  48 Days to the work you love by Dan Miller

3.  The total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey

Good luck with the business, I hope it works out well.
