Now Using Mollom For Spam Filtering

Posted August 24th, 2009 by Eddie Hebert

To help filter out the spam that has been popping up, we are trying out Mollom, a very useful service created by the founder of Drupal.

If it creates any problems, or if there is too much CAPTCHA and filtering getting in the way, please let us know.

Update on Spam Filtering

Some community members were reporting an issue with not being able to post new content due to the spam filter service.

We had set the filtering so that if the spam filter web service was not available, that posts were not to be let through. Erring on the side of keeping out the spam so that you all have a higher signal to noise ratio.

Just upgraded our service level with Mollom, which provides a higher level of SLA, so there should be much less downtime that results in a lockout.

I'd say if you're still locked out, post here... but well you'd be locked out. So those who got in touch, let us know by your creative means. I'll be sending a few tweets out to the affected people.

Nice.

I was wondering how all that stuff got through here (especially on the weekends).  Thanks Eddie!

Tuning

It looks like a couple of posts still get through, but the reports say about 28 spam posts have been blocked since Mollom has been enabled on the site.

Instead of just deleting or unpublishing spam or off-topic content, we'll be using the built in reporting system so we can tune our use of Mollom so that it helps us keep out as much spam as possible.
