Need Help in Keywords

Posted June 17th, 2009 by Fran Murdy

Hello:

I'm in desperate need of help to find keywords for my business.  I sell attachments to go on to  liquor bottles.  I'm also having a hard time finding my competitors on line, to see what words they use.  If anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate them.

Thanks,

Fran Murdy

Hi everybody,

the keyword resources are great but are mostly for english. What about other languages? Do you know some resources with keyword suggestions for spanish, german, italian, french, portuguese, romanian or even mongolian since we already have some fellows on this forum that for sure will appreciate these?

Thanks,

Adrian

Hi Fran,

I am sure by now you have a good list of keyword generators,  all thanks to great comments from other IMU attendees.

You can also try : http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com

Cheers

There were a few resources mentioned in "SEO Crash Course to Get Found" (GF102). One was semrush.com, but I can't remember the rest off hand. Should be able to view the pres and find them.

Hi Fran,

I've recently learned about keyword optimization myself. Have you played around with either the HubSpot Owner or HubSpot Marketer product? They offer a free 7 day trial and have a pretty slick 'keyword suggestion wizard' located under tools. It's very user friendly so give it a shot!

This is a really good question to be asking. I bet that 95% of the people reading this site haven't done as good a job at keyword research as they should have. And keyword research is the first and most important step to inbound marketing.I'd recommend reading these articles.Keyword research as the first step of online marketing.Keyword research as the foundation.Re: your dilemma, specifically, I'd recommend that you step back from trying to find keywords for the product you sell, and ask yourself, "What content will attract my buyer?"If your buyer is a bar manager, than you need to create content that will attract that type of person. for example, you might write an article, "10 Ways to Save Money Running your Bar" or "Most Common Local Bar Startup Mistakes".Does that make sense?

Fran,I agree with Pete wholeheartedly, keyword research is the beginning and end game for a well optimized site. You definitely need to figure out who your buyer and demographic is before proceeding and what type of valuable content you will need to attract, inform and convert them. Once you have that grounded point then there are a few tools out there that can help you with your research my preference is Wordtracker & Googles keyword Tool  Keyword Discovery is also well known. Once you've narrowed down your phrases and words then using whatever tools you choose you'll need to find out which keywords/phrases has a good KEI (keyword effectiveness index). You need to find a good balance between the keyword with the most monthly/daily searches, and the least competing sites. At this point you'll be closer to your goal.Remember there are many resources to help teach you good keyword research strategies on the net. Good luck!Hope this helped,~Anthony
