Sophie Oullet suggested we all introduce ourselves. I thought that was a great idea, so I'm starting a thread to do just that.
My name is Rick Burnes. I'm a former journalist working on the marketing team at HubSpot, the company that setup this site, and is organizing IMU. At HubSpot, I do a lot of blogging and other forms of content creation. You can find me on Twitter and on my personal blog.
I'm excited about this forum, because I'm interested in learning about inbound marketing experience other marketers and business owners are having.

This is Nida. I am an online Marketing and Communication Manager at Incepio.
At Incepio, we have started new online marketing strategy and have set up social network pages on facebook, linkedin, twitter and youtube.

I have started the training sessions setup by Inbound Marketing University. Today, i just took my first class, i need to know where should we submit our assignment?
Can anyone help me in letting me know this?

I'm Tisha and glad there's a forum where I can learn what works and what doesn't. So much experience here and I look forward to getting to know some of you very well. I'm still taking Inbound Marketing classes through IMU and just when I thought "Yep, I knew that", I learn from one of the professors added information I didn't know previously. So now as I progress through my training, my thoughts have been, "Wow. They didn't teach me that from my last training." So yes, the training is very refreshing and I'm excited to see what kinds of results I will get by appropriately applying the strategies I learn from IMU. I do have a question if anyone might like to offer their thoughts: Would you happen to know a job "title" that encompasses all the nuances of the "inbound marketing" activities combined w/search engine optimization & search marketing? (I'm trying to figure out a title for these skills and experiences.) Looking forward to active forum participation (on my part), and if you like to connect/network with me directly, I can be found at/on:http://www.twitter.com/tmsilvers , http://www.facebook.com/tmsilvers , and http://www.linkedin.com/in/tmsilvers

Hi everybody from Poland,
My name is Jacek Hibner and I am from Lodz, Poland. I have been hospitality consultant for several years and had no idea that part of my philosophy of coaching was inbound marketing ( or a tiny part of it).
I am just about to start a new PR/Marketing agency to spread my activity into other industries.
I have taken an IMU exam today and I am waiting for the results.
It was really great experience to be able to follow all the presentations.
I wait for more of them.

My name is Mark Smallwood. I've been in the software business for about 26 years. Before that I was a marketing assistant and owned a couple of small businesses (a looong time ago). I started learning about various online marketing and social media methods about 2 1/2 years ago and have finally been able to start pulling it all together with the help of this site and the HubSpot site. Great content here! I've been consulting with three startups and have been able to integrate some of the techniques here. I'm looking forward to learning more, sharing information, and developing a well-defined approach in my consulting business.

Hi! I'm a newbie, too.
I'm Alexis and I work as something of a "girl friday" for a small manufacturer of children's products. It's niche- seriously. A few weeks ago I downloaded all the classes and slides and I love listening to them. IMU (Rebecca?) really organized an intelligent group of people to teach and it helps all of us novices tremendously.
We (the company I work for) started on the social media train in September and have been trying our best to grow it. We were coming into a floundering stage when I found these classes. I've already implemented some of what I've learned, with more to come.
Thank you for setting this up! Really!

Hi All!
I've been following Hubspot's progress for a while now, using website.grader to keep a check on things, and just had the Inbound Marketing book delivered!
With very little experience in Web Design, but a good grasp of the English language, I have found a niche creating content that (hopefully) strikes a balance between decent keyword density and still making sense!
I'm new to the industry, and have instantly fallen in love with it. So much to learn, and find it all fascinating, so hopefully will learn lots here too! I'm currently deciding how to seperate my personal and business social media accounts, as I seem to have amalgamated them, then off to get blogging!
Cheers!

Hi everyone!
Jose Perez here. For over 22 years now I’ve worked an industry job. During these years I’ve had the opportunity to meet lots of people and work in unique projects. But the long hours at the office started me thinking about different scenarios...
Some three years ago I came to know about internet marketing. After some on and off attempts at affiliate marketing, I recently started blogging for the purposes of list building and as I have learned a bit more about it I have realized the need to have a strong search engine ranking approach with my sites. And that's how I got to know about IMU... and now you!
My pleasure,

I have heavy expertise and experience in the Content Creation and Publishing elements (blogging, podcasting, internet radio,Twitter, LinkedIn,writing and reporting.) I am looking to get my foot in the door and apply these skills, share them with others and strengthen my weaker areas (Analytics, ROI measurement tools, etc). I can speak first hand on the inherent weaknessess of traditional outbound marketing approaches (Financial Services). I plan to take the next IMU exam when it is offered in 2010. I am most interested in job/consulting offers. You can visit me at http://www.linkedin.com/in/stephaniemargodavis. This is a wonderful forum.

Hi. I'm Paul. I just finished IMU and am now prepping for the October-November 2009 exam.
I recently left the Kripalu Center, where I was Web Manager. Now, I'm focusing on building ClickBasics Internet Marketing, in which I have dabbled since I founded it in 2001.
IMU has been a real eye opener for me to see the depth and breadth of today's Internet Marketing. During the past few years I have been working on an "Internet Marketing As Conversation" model to simplify and make accessible the vast array of information out there. My interests are to help small businesses join the conversation. I do this thru my blog, workshops, and direct services.
Looking forward to sharing experiences through this forum. For more about me please see http://www.clickbasics.com/get-acquainted/

Hello,
My name is Morgan Polotan and I am the new Marketing Intern at Hubspot. I have been into social media for some time now, and especially love Hubspot's philosophy of inbound marketing. I think it's the future of marketing, especially as consumers become more informed about the market and products being offered to them.
One of my main projects here at Hubspot is to help people understand Website Grader, Blog Grader and our other analytical tools that analyze a website (or blog's) effectiveness and gives tips on how to improve traffic and conversion rates. So please ask questions if you have them! I will do my best to answer them.

I am a 15 year veteran of the newspaper advertising business, which I left just before the nosedive began, to run an automotive advertising agency, which I left just before the auto industry's nosedive, and now I am happily learning all about inbound marketing for The Stone Agency. I truly appreciated David Meerman Scott's comment that we have to unlearn what we have learned about marketing - that is what I am doing here - unlearning!

Hi everybody ... we are Lou and Robin Bonaventura. We own and operate the 4B Marketing Group ... an online marketing company and also KNR IT Solutions providing website and WordPress blog design and implementation. We started back in 1990 as a small local ISP providing dialup internet access and web design to local companies ... back then most people had never even heard of the internet LOL!
Lou worked on R&D Air Traffic Control systems for 13 years before being laid off in 2003 and we've been on our own working from home ever since ... it started out as the worst possible thing that could have happened and ended up being the BEST possible thing that could have happend! So if you're in that situation now ... take a step back and look at it positively and you'll make it through!
We're a small family owned business and we're attending the IMU and it is awesome! Very good content and information has been given throughout the course!
Thanks to HubSpot and all the professors for doing this! it's fantastic!

I have a (mostly) print publishing background, and we distribute solely printed maps, so I am uber-pleased to learn how to promote my beloved retro navigational technology with social media marketing.
Yes, printed maps still exist and in many cases, you will not find more accurate mapping in electronic format. I know that's heresy. And while I'm at it, I'll just mention that Google Earth is not a live snapshot of our planet. :-)
Thanks, IMU, for bringing all this instruction together for us. The university is a GREAT example of what you're teaching traditional marketers to do.

Hello: My name is Fran Murdy. I own two businesses, located in Ontario, Canada. One is called Le Baron Distributors - which is an advertising promotional company. This business is basically two-fold. One of our product lines are items such as: calendars, t-shirts, golf balls, pens, office stationary, etc, etc. The other part of the business is that we distribute on-packs, primarily for the liquor industry. My second business is called FJM Bookkeeping and Administrative Services.
I'm here as I love to learn. I'm really enjoying all these webinars, and at the same time I'm very confused about so much. I will have to hear all the webinars again, and again and to read the slides, maybe that will helped.
In the very near future, I would like to redesign my website for Le Baron as its really old and it has not been maintained. However, I'm having some problems in that area as well, especially looking for keywords. content, etc.
I'm not on Twitter, or Facebook yet. Soon maybe. If you would like to contact me you can at: lebaroninc@yahoo.com

Sophie Ouellet 2 years 33 weeks 5 days 21 hours ago
I thought that I'd better introduce myself since I came up with the idea !!!
With my husband, I create Wonderword, a word search puzzle that is printed in 250 newspaper worldwide.
With the current economic crisis, newspaper sales went down.
Knowing that the reduction of sales in newspaper is likely to be a trend, we have decided to grow our presence online.
Since I have an interest in social media, I decided to learn as much as possible about online marketing, rather than leave all that potential transition to a third party...
Love P Words
Michael Hartzell 2 years 33 weeks 5 days 23 hours ago
Ok,
A little odd I know.. But aren't P words the best? Perfect. Precise, Punctual. And since this is an introduction... what the heck, sharing is good.
More than 25 years in the restaurant business (including Pizza... another P word) and currently work one on one with restaurants to boost sales and build teams. (faster, easier, simpler & funner ways to do so) Have a few other online activities as well but nothing to put a banner up about. (though after IMU that will change!)
Hoping an old guy can learn new tricks and add the Inbound Marketing University to his arsenal. With so many claiming to be the king of marketing.. most I approach with the concept of going online are not very receptive.
Thus far the presentations have been OUTSTANDING. Better than expected and I wil be definitely re-addressing my approach to online marketing for offline business.
This is so much different than the class I took in 1976 where we filled out bubbles on cards after writing out the dos program. And the ticker tapes we used for memory! whew. Jealous that I can't start again now... ! :)
Pleased to meet the People of IMU and hubspot. (It is Perfect how hubspot balances People, Purpose, Proft) Triple P's. :).

Hi everybody,
I am Adrian. I am a former doctor converted to marketing and sales. I do marketing for one of the biggest local banks and I supervise what we call alternative channels of distribution meaning the call center, internet sites, internet banking, ATM and other devices that keep our customers in contact with the bank. Now we are focusing on more efficient ways of marketing, inbound marketing is one of the targets. I enjoy a lot IMU and I am looking forward to learn from your experience.

Wow!!! What a transition!!!
The longer story
Adrian Chira 2 years 33 weeks 5 days 3 hours ago
Well, the longer story is that I have 2 degrees, one in medicine and one in computer sciences and because of the changes in Eastern Europe, more than 20 years ago I have started sales and then marketing in pharma industry. Then I founded my own marketing agency. We were pioneers on the Romanian market for creating the radio commercials. Then we extended and we started to do outdoor, TV clips and so on. After some time I wanted a new challenge so I bought a bankrupt restaurant and I turned it on profit in 3 months and sold the business in 2 years. Done my MBA and then got the opportunity to create the retail banking division for an international bank together with 4 MBA colleagues. this proved successful so the bank acquired another local bank and then we were acquired by an international bank and I was in charge to merge the retail operations, starting with product offerings and ending with the way branches should look like. I learned a lot. Then I changed the bank and here I am doing marketing.
Regarding the transition, it seems that I am not the only one. I think that in one of Seth Godin books he mentions a guy that started to publish books after he graduated from med school.
Thanks,
Adrian
