Blogrolls and reciprocating

Posted June 18th, 2009 by Laura Balcom

When including blogrolls in your blog's sidebar, should you contact the bloggers you featured and ask them to reciprocate? Or is that a no-no?

this is so exciting and

this is so exciting and informative for me really... because I have never had any idea of these things that in this modern world we are going to be in that kind of technology filed where we have to be best on our capabilities to success and stay at top. I have been always a fan of innovation and new things in life so doin these kind of courses like CCNA, MCSE and other certifications which can not only help you for your future but also makes you unique in this field as well.. so very happy to be part of this and want you guys to also have a look at them because once you will join it and have a study on these, you surely gona like it and appreciate the effort...this is all what I can say, rest of you will decide. thanks!!!

Blog Rolls and Reciprocating

I would agree with the others that suggest not asking for the link back, but develop the relationship.

I would like to add that a large number of bloggers have set up alerts to let them know when they have been mentioned elsewhere and will often check on those sites to see why they were mentioned.  If they find value in your content (a famiiar theme for this course) then they may reciprocate.  Something to keep in mind when deciding who to put on your blogroll.

Happy Blogging!

Say thanks...

I think rather than asking them to link back, its better to start a little conversation as cold calling is so old school now

May be by saying thanks for provinding such a great information or showing interests in the editorials.Eventually you will see your blog in their blogroll

I have always followed this criteria and so far it did work..

Plainly asking

Plainly asking for recriprocation is just like cold calling, not effective.

Engaging a blogger may take more time and effort, but it's all about building the relationship first. This also gives you an opportunity (potentially) to speak with the blogger one-on-one. I don't see why that couldn't turn into help with developing your content more effectively through the advice of someone more experienced. Social media is all about relationships and conversations, start one!

great insight

Great insight, I could not agree more. I liked the comparison with cold calling. You are right, you have to start somehow a conversation and so you will finally get to the relationship part.

That's one way to do it ...

... but I'm not sure how fruitfuil that approach will be. As a blogger, I prefer to add links in my blogroll that I've picked because I read the blog regularly.

I think a better way to get links from blogs you admire is to engage the authors in the body of your posts. Write posts that react to their posts, mention them by name, and link to their posts with thoughtful comments. If you do this well, they'll start reacting back, with links.

Reciprocity

Hi Laura,

For sure this is one way to go for link building. I have seen bloggers that link back and others that don't. The first group has more to gain than the other. The problem is that it will be pretty hard to convince a blogger that has a site with PR6 to link back to a page with PR1 but you can try.

Best regards,

Adrian
