I was wondering if I could hear about what tools to use for proving ROI to clients who are hesitating investing in Social Media for their businesses.
As an independent consultant, how do we access those tools or convince the client that it's worthwhile paying a fee to monitor?

I'd encourage you to prove the ROI by leveraging social media to attract traffic, leads, sales.
When it comes to website analytics, social media sites are just another referer.
It's pretty hard to justify expenditures based on "mentions" or "interactions", although those, of course, should lead to traffic, leads and sales.
Using a SMM tool to track "mentions over time" of brand names certainly looks cool (assuming there's an upward trend), but I think it's kinda like staring at one's navel in appreciation.
